TRY THIS FIRST

Look for a third matching tile before adding a new shape to the tray. Completing a group leaves room for your next choice.

Count unfinished groups

Before selecting a tile, look at what is already in the tray. Two matching tiles are close to leaving; a single tile still needs two partners. A move that completes a group releases space immediately, while a new type adds another unfinished commitment. When several matches are possible, ask which choice makes the tray easier to clear in the next few moves.

Make space before exploring

Suppose the tray contains two snowflakes and one mitten. A visible third snowflake is usually a more useful immediate selection than an unrelated decoration. It completes a group and restores capacity. This is a planning example, not a guarantee about every layered board: a tile might need to be uncovered first, and the current game may impose additional restrictions. Check that the tile you want is actually selectable.

Look beyond the next tile

A tile can be attractive because it uncovers another useful symbol. If the board has overlapping layers, consider both the selected tile and the ones it exposes. Opening access to the third member of an existing pair can justify temporarily using another tray slot. Adding a tile with no visible path to its partners creates a longer obligation and leaves fewer choices later.

Use a capacity budget

Treat empty slots as a budget for uncertainty. When only one or two slots remain, explore less and look for completions. If you cannot see a way to finish a group, stop and inspect the board rather than repeatedly selecting new types. If hints, undo or reshuffle are available, read what they do and whether they have a cost before using them.

Review a difficult finish

After a round, identify the first point where the tray became crowded with unrelated singles. That is often more useful than remembering the last tile selected. On another board, try delaying one new type until an existing pair is resolved. Watch whether this leaves more room for useful matches in your next round.
